Piano Repairs

As time goes by, a piano will need repairs.
We can give you an estimate of what needs to be repaired and how much it costs.

Some of the usual repairs needed are:

Hammers:
After a while, because of continual striking of the strings, grooves start to be formed on your hammers. This changes the clarity of the sound. When this happens, we reshape the hammers. If the piano has been neglected, and the grooves on the hammers are too deep, we have to replace the hammers. Of course the price of reshaping and replacing differ.

Straps: Due to time and the climate change, the straps dry out and break. At this time we will replace them.

Strings: Sometimes due to pianos being kept in damp environment and being neglected, the strings get rusty and dirty. If a cleaning would not be enough, we will replace them.

Tuning pins: When your piano does not keep the tune, one of the reasons can be that the tuning pins need changing.

Key Tops: Sometimes in the case of old pianos, that have ivory keys, the ivory can change colour, or crack.

Soundboard: If the temperature in the house is not well regulated, the soundboard can crack. The repair is time consuming and costly. That is why we recommend to have a humidifier/dehumidifier installed.

Humidifier/Dehumidifier: Your piano is more than a piece of furniture, it is a precision instrument. Its more than 9000 individual parts are uniquely susceptible to changes in humidity. Yet very few homes are kept at the constant 42% humidity level necessary for the maintenance of optimum sound reproduction. High humidity can cause sticking keys, rusty strings and tuning instability. Low humidity can cause rattling keys, slipping pins, tuning instability and the danger of a cracked soundboard. Because the piano mechanism is enclosed in a cabinet, it can be protected by a simple internal system independent of external conditions. With the installation of an automatic humidity control system, you can keep your piano in safe, stable environment, and save hundreds of dollars in repairs and maintenance in the years ahead.

Regulating: Regulating consists of adjusting the action to make everything work properly.

Voicing: Voicing or tone regulating consists of changing the tone quality, usually by making the hammers softer or harder.
